WhatsApp Figures Out Something for Good Video and Photo Quality

WhatsApp may face more competition than ever from Telegram and Signal, but it remains one of the most popular methods to communicate with friends and family. A recent beta release hinted at some impending video compression enhancements, and it appears that photos will get the same treatment. Another feature is being worked on in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.14.16, according to WABetaInfo.

Another version of the app was just published to Google Play, with more customization options for delivering various types of media. The previous version disclosed that additional settings for adjusting the quality of video files were in the works, and this update expands those preferences to photos.

WhatsApp Figures Out Something for Good Video and Photo QualityAuto, Best Quality, and Data Saver are all accessible for images, including the three categories available for films. You’ll be able to adjust how photographs and videos are sent under the Media upload quality section of Storage and data if and when both options are made available to actual users. That area is currently unavailable in any version of WhatsApp.

Both features are still in development, thus neither is available to the general public just yet. Though we don’t know for sure if Best quality maintains any compression, we shouldn’t have to wait long to try it out for ourselves. Auto, Best Quality, and Data Saver are all options for photographs, as are the three film categories. If and when both options are made accessible to actual users, you’ll be able to alter how images and videos are transferred under the Media upload quality section of Storage and data. Unfortunately, in any version of WhatsApp, that section is now unavailable.
