Lower Vaccination Rate Surges Delta Variant Cases in Oklahoma

The delta variant of Covid-19 is rising in the rural parts of Oklahoma as cases are increasing statewide again, along with fewer vaccinations.Oklahoma is up to around 275 per day now, but the fear is that Oklahoma give the delta variant a position to stay as the state’s vaccination rates lag.

Oklahoma is going through an uptick again, along with more than 9% of the recent positive tests statewide.But it is a bit different this time as there are no top trouble spots in the metro areas yet. Instead, they are in eastern, especially in the smaller towns with a lower vaccination rate.

Lower Vaccination Rate Surges Delta Variant Cases in OklahomaDr. Sam Ratermann, a family physician with Integris Grove Hospital, said that he is concerned about the delta variant causing chaos in Grove. Health officials said that the vaccination rate of people is just 37% in Grove. The rate is more than 60% in Oklahoma County.

Ratermann said that it seems like they are seeing younger patients, they are coming in a little sicker. He thinks that this is where the delta variant is coming in. It seems to be preying on unvaccinated people as the health officials are getting more and more cases.All this comes among a significant new push for the vaccinations as the events and travels are restarting. The White House and Oklahoma are telling young people to get vaccinated.
